For a group of seven girl students from Cyberjaya University College of Medical Sciences (CUCMS) of Malaysia, Nagpur is nothing less than the Mecca of Homoeopathy. They had read it in books that homoeopathy can cure difficult diseases which even Allopathy medicine cannot. In Nagpur, the students said, they actually saw many diseases being treated successfully through homoeopathy.
“Although I saw this happen myself but it took me a few days to believe that pregnant women could be treated and babies delivered successfully through homoeopathy. It was really hard to believe that homoeopathy can cure diseases like cancer, skin diseases and even those of the heart.
We interacted with many such patients and saw amazing results. We could not believe our eyes after seeing an 18 year old boy suffering from Duchene Muscular Dystrophy riding a bicycle” said Laila Rani binti Mohammad Raja.
These students were under a 3 months training program at The National Academy of Homoeopathy, India (NAHI) run by Prof. Dr. Kasim Chimthanawala and his family at Shaad Homoeopathic Hospital Complex, Nagpur. The students said they had never got a chance to physically examine the patients in their country as the homoeopathy degree course was introduced there only recently. These students will be the first qualified homoeopaths in Malaysia.
Khairul Badriyah said she was really impressed by the work of Dr. Sagira Chimthanawala who specializes in Homoeopathic Obstetrics and Gynecology. “A pregnant woman came to the hospital bleeding profusely. It turned out to be a premature delivery. But a single dose of homoeopathic medicine Phosphorus, stopped the bleeding” she said.
In the past 2 months these students have been exposed to numerous patients, both indoor and outdoor. Some of the serious patients are taking treatment at NAHI for difficult diseases like Ischemic Heart disease, Atherosclerosis, Cirrhosis of liver, Cancers of uterus, muscles, lung, brain, skin, cervix, breast etc; tuberculosis, asthma, congenital heart diseases, etc. They have seen C- sections with explicit descriptions of the procedures with pre and post operative homoeopathic management as well as normal deliveries conducted purely with homoeopathy. Every morning they had 2-3 hours of case taking and case discussion with management classes where the faculty would teach them the above. The evidence based study of their cases has been mentioned in their log books.
Pediatrician, Dr. Fatema Chimthanawala said that the students whole heartedly participated in health check-up camps organized by Rotary club of Nagpur South East for destitute children.
They also attended peripheral rural visits to various places like Wardha, Hingni, Rajnandgaon, Dongargarh etc. besides visiting several specialty centers of orthopedics, ophthalmogy, cardiology, radiology, pathology, gynecology and pediatric surgery. The students could interact well with the students and that increased their confidence. In practically all the camps, the students, already adapted to the working of NAHI could relate and help in managing patients by taking history, ECG, physical examination and treatment discussion. A camp at Buddh Vihar, Jaripatka, Nagpur was arranged on 10th November 2013 by Dr. Pratibha Dangre was highly successful in terms of learning diagnosis and homoeopathic management of certain uncommon cases.
“Though they have already completed their theory course, we also refresh their understanding of the basic medical sciences as anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, pathology, etc apart from the subjects of homoeopathic materia medica, repertory and pharmacy. They were given real organs to hold and taught on it. The philosophy part was also taken up almost everyday. We even covered as much as we could and will continue till the last day repertorization as well as repertory understanding which include explanation of rubrics and remedies related to it. The FGO, Pediatrics, Extremities, GIT, RS, Neurology, etc have been covered” said Dr. Kasim Chimthanawala. Dr. Aadil said that these students were taught to prepare Mother Tinctures. They were briefed about the classes, kingdoms, potencies etc and then they proceeded to make 8 mother tinctures (Amla, Asoka, Neem, Tulsi, Calendula, Thuja, Brahmi and Phytolacca) following the procedure mentioned in the pharmacopoeia.
Later for 21 days they have to shake the bottle for 10 minutes daily which they again owing to their disciplined nature did it very religiously. They will be carrying a signed copy from NAHI of the complete procedure with usage of the drug that they prepared.
Dr. Lydia Devega said, “Hard to believe a few doses of a drug “Bryonia” can give substantial results in treating Liver Cirrhosis. I saw a serious patient coming to the hospital and returning home smiling”. Dr. Siti Syahidah quoted, “Several kidney failure patients are hospitalized and being treated here with very good results, we now know that homoeopathy can treat such diseases.” Dr. Khadijah Zanudin also commented that, “I was awed to see a boy suffering from Muco-polysaccharidosis, a disease that affects the heart and muscles and stunts the growth, showed improvement like anything after undergoing treatment for past two years.”Dr. Nik Nur Syazwani in praise of NAHI said that, “We have learnt Allopathy never cures a disease completely but Homoeopathy does. We got to see it here.” Dr. Teh Chye Ping an enthusiastic student said, “A holistic treatment adopted here helps in effective management of disease. Even family members are counseled here. I got to see the real power of homoeopathy after coming here.”
